Flood-Damage Electrical Recovery & EICR at Burnworthy House Care Home, Yeovil

When the riverbank burst adjacent to Burnworthy House, a Deventure Care Home in Yeovil, the lower ground floor was inundated with over a foot of water. The principal contractor, Bison Civils, engaged Mission Road Electrical Ltd to handle the electrical strip-out and reinstatement, including full compliance checks (EICR) on the unaffected first floor and fuseboards.

The Challenge

Flooding contaminated wiring, sockets and containment across the lower ground floor, posing major health, safety and insurance-compliance issues.
The care home remained operational, so works had to align with building contractor schedules and minimise disruption for residents.
All reinstated systems had to meet full electrical safety certification (including EICR) to satisfy insurers and the principal contractor’s hand-back standards.

Our Solution

Coordinated directly with Bison Civils and the insurance team to safely remove all compromised electrical installations on the lower ground floor.
Completed a comprehensive electrical strip-out, disposing of contaminated wiring, sockets and distribution boards in line with regulations.
Carried out a full Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) on the first floor and all fuseboards to confirm integrity of the remaining installation.
Made required circuit alterations on first-floor fuseboards to meet current standards and contractor hand-back specification.
Supplied complete testing certificates and hand-over documentation for the principal contractor and loss adjuster.

The Result

The lower ground floor electrical systems were safely removed and prepared for refurbishment, while the remaining installation was certified as safe and compliant. Our prompt response and coordination with Bison Civils minimised downtime for the care home and provided clear documentation for the insurer and loss adjuster.
