New EICR Regulations for rented properties

New EICR Regulations for rented properties

From June 2020 it will be mandatory for rental properties in the UK to have an EICR (ElectricalInspection Condition Report) completed every 5 years. This report is essentially an electrical MOT for rental properties. Landlords will be required to hire a qualified electrical contractor associated with an approved governing body who will check the condition of the existing electrical installation and its compliance to British Electrical Standards (BS7671).

Failure to do so could lead to significant levies implemented on the individual landlord by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Previously electrical testing for rental properties was the responsibility of the individual landlord and was rarely enforced.

Mission Road hire fully qualified electricians who can produce the required certification for an EICR without a landlord left wondering if they are covered. Please don’t hesitate to get hold of our office to book yours – information on the Mission Road website.
